There is much debate going around whether people should take nutrition supplements. My answer is “Yes”.

Let’s face it; we all lead a busy lifestyle (unless you’re one of those people sitting on your butt watching TV 24/7). We simply don’t have the time to combine all the beneficial whole foods that have 10 grams of this, 5 mg of that etc. on a daily basis and eat every 2-3 hours. Many people focus more on their macro nutrient intake, such as protein, carbohydrates, fats and water, but forget about their micro nutrients, which are your essential vitamins and minerals such as calcium, iron, zinc etc. that are vital for healthy growth, strengthening of the immune system and development of your body.

This is where supplements come into place. Hey, I’m not saying you should completely replace eating whole foods with supplements. After all supplements are to ‘add to’ – not replace. To achieve optimum health, you must commit to a proper training and nutrition program.

Supplements act as boosters which help provide you with essential nutrients that’ll boost your physical performance, strengthen your immune system, help prevent many modern day diseases and also help rid the body of toxins.

Let’s use the famous protein powder for example. It is a convenient, tasty, quick and easy alternative to junk food. Have you ever experienced a time where you had nothing healthy to eat, and you were so hungry that you ate whatever you got your hands on? I bet you felt guilty afterwards because it probably wasn’t the best option. Imagine having that delicious protein powder at hand, where you could whip up a shake and get the muscle building, metabolism boosting power of protein without having to cook food or eat junk. *Tip: throw in some yogurt and berries for a boost of calcium and antioxidants.

There is a wide range of supplements on the market today, and the needs of individuals vary. I’m all about reaching optimal health and would like to think that you would be too. I have tried and tested many products and there are only a few that stand out. Here is my A-List of supplements that I HIGHLY RECOMMEND using if you’re looking to reach optimum health:
